Is abortion legal in NYC?

Yes. The Reproductive Health Act (2019) protects the right to abortion in New York.

How medication abortion works

Medication abortion is generally available up to 11 weeks of pregnancy in New York; procedural (in-clinic) abortion is available at select providers beyond that.

Mifepristone, one of the medications used, is available at NYC clinics and, for now, by mail through telehealth providers — an option currently preserved by a May 2026 Supreme Court stay while litigation continues. Call the hub below for current options.

How late can I get care?

New York law protects the right to abortion up to 24 weeks of pregnancy, and after 24 weeks when the patient's health is at risk or the fetus is not viable. Availability still varies by clinic within that — each sets its own cutoff. If no clinic matches your stage of pregnancy, call the NYC Abortion Access Hub for help finding later-term or procedural care.

Do minors need parental consent?

No. Parental consent is not required in New York State for abortion.
